History of our hammer

The building of the Hamr was built around 1700 as one of the two Hamrs on the Křemežský brook in the vicinity of Holubov. It was mainly used for the production of tools for the nearby glassworks. The dam cut a path for the water with an elevation of almost four metres at the location of our new road on the west side, then travelled through the yard and back under the restoration deck. Around 1900, this water-powered forge was operationally closed, the waterwheel removed, and the waterwheel embankment filled in.

In 1990, the Hamr opened for the first time as a restaurant and boarding house. It was in operation for 12 years, but after the 2002 floods, operations were suspended for 10 years. Since 2012, the operation has resumed under the auspices of our cocktail bar Karaoke Media, Náměstí Přemysla Otakara II, České Budějovice (since 1993) and the building has been gradually renovated and now we can welcome you in the new and renovated premises and rooms.
