The Hamr building was constructed around 1700 as one of the two Hammers on the Křemežský brook in the vicinity of Holubov. It primarily served to produce tools for the nearby glassworks. A mill race shortened the water’s path with a drop of almost four meters at the site of our new path on the western side, continued through the courtyard, and returned under the restaurant deck. Around 1900, this forge, powered by water, was operationally closed, the waterwheel and mill race were removed, and the mill race was filled in.
In 1990, Hamr was opened for the first time as a restaurant and pension. It operated for a full 12 years, but after the floods in 2002, operations were interrupted for 10 years. Since 2012, operations have resumed under the auspices of our cocktail bar Karaoke Media, Přemysl Otakar II Square, České Budějovice (since 1993), and the building has been gradually renovated. Now we can welcome you to the new and renovated spaces and rooms.
